Criminals Targeting Seniors in Diabetes Supplies Scam

Police in one Louisiana town are alerting people with diabetes about a new scam targeting people with the disease, according to an article in Daily World. While the illegal activity in this instance appears to be limited the area, the tips the police are offering make sense for everyone to help them avoid being ripped off.

Essentially, the criminals targeted senior citizens, calling them on the phone and telling them they are eligible for free diabetic testing supplies. The criminals then asked for the seniors’ Medicare and Social Security numbers, which they used to commit identity theft.

Police recommend that people do not ever give out their personal information over the phone, especially if it is from an unsolicited caller. They also suggest that people who receive such calls hang up immediately.
