Lance Armstrong Takes a Spin at Diabetes Awareness

Cycling legend Lance Armstrong, known for his cancer advocacy and his battle with the disease, is now trying to help people with diabetes, according to a recent article in USA Today.

Armstrong introduced MyPlate D on his website (which is free), LiveStrong.com. The site feature allows users to track their food intake and exercise and is designed for people with Type 2 diabetes. Specifically, MyPlate D allows users to break down the nutritional value of different foods, as well as their components, including carbohydrates, fats, proteins and sodium. The program, which encourages people to connect with others that have similar goals, also allows users to track their insulin use and monitor their blood sugar levels.

Unlike cancer, Armstrong says he has no connection to diabetes, but wanted to help make a difference in one of the USA’s fastest growing diseases.  ”Everybody needs to monitor their food intake, but it’s even more sensitive for someone with diabetes because of the ramifications if you don’t get it right,” Armstrong says.
