Gene Discovery May Lead to Better Type 2 Treatment

Researchers have discovered that a gene variant that may help doctors better prescribe the right kind of medication for people with Type 2 diabetes, according to a recent article published by BBC News.  

In a recent study, the scientists found that group of drugs known as sulphonylureas were almost 3.5 times as effective among Type 2 diabetics that also had a specific gene variant. The researchers say the developments are important because gene variants may provide doctors with important clues on how best to treat each patient. Currently, there are a number of different types of drugs used to treat Type 2, and that number is growing.
