Controversial Type 2 diabetes drug Avandia is being pulled from retail pharmacies starting in November, according to a recent article from HealthDay News.
The FDA announced recently that the drug will only be available to patients that have been using the drug safely, cannot control their blood sugar levels with other medication or who understand the risks and choose to take the drug anyway. In order to physically get the drug, patients will have to enroll in a special program and receive Avandia through the mail.
Eight months ago the FDA said it was severely restricting the sale of the drug over safety concerns and its link to heart attacks and other cardiovascular issues.
