Alcohol Consumption May Help Pre Diabetics Stave Off Disease

Having a few alcoholic drinks each day may lower your risk for developing Type 2 diabetes, according to a new study. However, the results may only apply to people taking certain types of medication or undergoing lifestyle modification, according to a recent article published in Diabetes in Control.

Study participants had impaired glucose tolerance, also known as pre diabetes. Each was given a placebo, metformin, or lifestyle modification. Specifically, researchers found that those who were given metformin or lifestyle modification and also consumed one to three alcoholic drinks each day had a lower risk of developing Type 2 diabetes and secreted less insulin.
