Poor Play of Bears’ Cutler Has Some Speculating About Diabetes Link

With Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler continuing to struggle in night games, some are raising questions about a possible link between his performance and his Type 1 diabetes.

At issue is Cutler’s accuracy during night games, leading some to speculate he is having vision troubles, which can be a side effect of diabetes. Last night Cutler and the Bears lost 24-20 to the Philadelphia Eagles and Cutler turned in a less-than-stellar performance.

A Chicago Sun Times columnist described Cutler as “beleaguered” in a column appearing Monday morning and noted the circulating speculation about diabetes contributing to Cutler’s poor play. When asked about it after the game, Cutler had this to say: “Diabetes has never been an issue, and it never will be an issue. We stay on top of that to excess probably, to a fault.”

Cutler, who was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes during his NFL career, has recently released a number of webisode detailing his battle with diabetes.
