On World Diabetes Day (Nov. 14, 2009), 966 monuments around the world went blue to show support for those living with the disease and to help raise awareness of diabetes. Seventy-two countries participated in the monument lighting festivities. The photo gallery from the Diabetes UK website has some great shots of the monuments from the 2008 and 2009 lighting ceremonies. You can check it out here.
Below is a sample of some of the photos on the site, including a photo of the London Eye on World Diabetes Day 2009, followed by the pyramids and the Sphinx in Egypt and Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janiero, Brazil from 2008.
