Bears’ Jay Cutler Releases ‘Support System’ Webisode

Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler released the fifth installment of his web videos about his battle with Type 1 diabetes this month. In the short entitled ‘Support System’ Cutler talks about his concerns about long-term complications, such as amputations, and how  he has learned to open up to others about the disease. “I didn’t want to go to anybody else for help,” he says of his initial attitude after being diagnosed. Now he has a large support system, which includes his college quarterbacks coach, who was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of 27. (Article continues below the video)

Some in the media have questioned whether Cutler’s shaky performances at times this season is due to his diabetes. Cutler is a league leader in interceptions.

Also this month, Cutler and Eli Lilly and Company announced that they are helping to send 44 kids to American Diabetes Association camps next summer through the Touchdowns for Diabetes program. In the program, Lilly donates $1,000 for every touchdown Cutler throws and $100 for ever pass he completes.
