Update on Dr. Faustman’s Type 1 Diabetes ‘Cure’ Research

Dr. Denise Faustman is a bit of a controversial figure in the world of Type 1 diabetes. Much of her research seeking a cure is based on the premise that spleen cells play a role in the regeneration of insulin-producing islet cells in her studies. Others have debated the source of the cell regeneration in Faustman’s research.

At a recent diabetes conference I attended in Maryland, panelists fielding questions from the audience about Faustman, seemed to be choosing their words carefully. Because of the controversy, much of Faustman’s research relies on private donations.

Diabetes blog Diabetes Mine recently interviewed Faustman about the current state of her research and her preparation for Phase II human trials. Check out the video interview below.

I am a huge supporter of Dr. Faustman’s research and I am excited of the results of what Phase 2 trials will bring. May Dr. faustman’s research excel and surpass all other researchers whose efforts never went as far as Dr. Faustman’s.

  2. Allie Beatty says:

Dr. Faustman, without a doubt, is closer to a diabetes cure than anybody I’ve ever seen, read, or spoken to before I met her at Mass General Hospital. She is passionate about her research. She is going through the motions to ultimately prove legitimacy of her work. I’m glad to be alive to see Dr. Faustman’s work come to life!

  3. A Mom says:

    God bless Dr. Faustman!
