The aftermath of the devastating earthquake in Haiti has left an estimated 300,000 diabetics in that country in urgent need of help.
The International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and Australia-based Insulin for Life sent a relief package to the country which includes insulin, testing meters and strips, as well as other supplies. The shipment was sent to the Haitian Foundation for Diabetes and Cardiovascular Disease, the only dedicated diabetes clinic in the country. It is believed to be still standing.
An additional shipment of diabetes supplies was sent to the Haiti Diabetes Foundation project coordinator in Washington, who traveled to Haiti on Sunday with the aid and has begun distributing it to those in need.
