DiabetesMine Patient Voices Contest

Diabetes Mine ContestDiabetesMine is a blog for people with diabetes with a technological slant.

Every year they hold a  DiabetesMine Patient Voices Contest where they ask empowered PWDs (people with diabetes) to take part in the challenge.

DiabetesMine want to foster innovation in diabetes design and to encourage creative new tools to improve the lives of all people with diabetes.

For 2013 they asked patients to share their sentiments about current diabetes technology and what they feel are the biggest unmet needs. They gave people the opportunity to submit material in slides, video, or  image format, and were over the moon with the quality of responses.

Below is the video that was put together for 2013

Each of the winners received a scholarship to attend and participate in the 2013 Diabetes Innovation Summit event that took place at Stanford School of Medicine on Nov. 15, 2013.

One of the winners was Simon Carter, who has type 1 and is a parent of a T1 child. He is the creator of a new “prediction system” called ManageBGL below is a video by him talking about this system which he says is much cheaper than normal insulin pumps:
